Planning Commission Action on Transportation Element

Transportation element information from the City of Columbia and Charleston County with information from the BCD COG was mailed to Planning Commission members for review in December, 2008.  The element was discussed during the February, 2009 Planning Commission meeting.  Concern was raised by several members regarding a perceived lack of representation for the Town in larger planning efforts such as the CHATS process.  Mr. DeHaven noted that all forms of transportation need to be addressed, not just cars, buses, and bicycles.

It was suggested that the Planning Commission use the Columbia plan as a template to start development of the element.  In March the Planning Commission identified other transportation planning reports that may contain useful information in the development of the Town’s transportation element such as the CHATS plan, BCDCOG Long Range Transportation Plan, and Charleston County Transportation Plan.  Potential data gaps/needs were identified and the point was made that these transportation plans were developed with no input from the Town.  In May development of the transportation element was put on hold due to Town Council’s objection to the extension of I-526 by SC DOT and the Charleston County Harborview Road project.

The Professional Ethics DVD is checked out, but I will try to have it returned this week. Otherwise we have Ethics in the Public Sector available.

The Town of James Island desires to check out  "Professional Ethics" and "Introduction to Planning Commission " for our next Planning Commission
