Moving in

I read with both amusement and bewilderment the comments made by Mayor Joseph Riley of Charleston regarding the Watson Hill plan. He referred to attempts by the city of North Charleston to annex this tract as "bad public policy," and inferred that the officials of the city need to "respect the community plans and aspirations for areas affected."

What was Joe thinking when he aggressively fought (and continues to fight) the incorporation of the town of James Island?

Perhaps Mayor Riley felt the citizens of this area would receive superior services from Charleston. One can only hope the same fine services will be provided to the deer and squirrels living on the thousand of acres in the Francis Marion National Forest along S.C. Route 41 in Berkeley County annexed into the city limits. (May I recommend going to Charleston's official Web site to look at the Century V City Plan map).

The folks living in Georgetown need to listen for the warning: The Charlestonians are coming. The Charlestonians are coming.

Amusingly (I hope).
